Non-Executive Chairman - Kevin A. D'Silva, BSc, MBA
Kevin D'Silva, a chemical engineer, brings a wealth of business expertise from a lifetime career in the medical devices industry, during which he has managed the growth of a number of publicly quoted and private companies.

His early career was with Hanson Trust Plc, where he rose to a senior management position and acquired co-ownership of his first company, Warne Surgical Products, in an MBI in 1980.

After the sale of Warne to Teleflex Inc in 1985 he became Managing Director of Teleflex Medical. In 1990 he founded the Kynoch Group Plc specialising in products and services for the life sciences and medical industries, which he grew to a £15 million turnover in 5 years. Following this, he was until 2003 Group Managing Director of Ferraris Group Plc, a publicly quoted group specialising in cardio-respiratory products and specialised components for the lifesciences industry. The Ferraris group at the time of his leaving had a turnover of £65 million with 850 employees in Europe and the United States.

Kevin D'Silva was appointed to the board of Prosurgics in December 2003 and became Chairman in April 2004. He is currently Chairman of Surface Transforms Plc, Chairman of Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging Ltd, Chairman of Ai2 Ltd, a director of Electra Kingsway VCT Plc, Titan VCT Plc , a partner in SalusInvest LP and, through his company KDS Associates, provides strategic consultancy services to a number of medical products companies.

Chief Executive - Paul Moraviec, MA
Paul Moraviec has more than 20 years commercial and senior management experience in the medical device industry. He has gained senior level experience in both global healthcare companies and an early stage, venture capital financed company.

Paul joined from Abbott Laboratories, where he held the position of Vice President, International Commercial Operations for the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. In this role he was responsible for transforming the performance of that business to its current sales of $700 million and double digit growth. He built a world class commercial team and played a key role in the $1.2 B acquisition and integration of the TheraSense business.

Before his role at Abbott, Moraviec was the CEO of IIT Ltd, a UK start-up established to commercialise an innovative continuous glucose monitoring technology. Prior to that he had a seven year successful track record of driving profitable growth with Johnson & Johnson, his last position being Vice President of J&J’s Codman neurosurgery business.

President, Prosurgics, Inc. - Bill Perry, BS, MBA
Bill brings extensive experience with more than 19 years in sales, marketing and business development for venture capital-backed growth companies, almost all of it specific to medical devices. He has been involved in multiple successful mergers and acquisitions and an IPO. Before joining Prosurgics, Bill was Senior Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Sales for Nanomix, Inc., a medical device company focused on diagnostics and monitoring applications. Prior to that, Bill held the position of Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and International Sales at VNUS Medical Technologies, Inc., a minimally invasive vascular surgery company that went public in October 2004. Prior to that, he served in senior management positions at companies such as Endovasix, Inc., Influence Medical Technologies, Ltd., and Indigo Medical, Inc.

Bill holds a B.S. from Georgetown University, and a Masters in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). Bill joined Prosurgics in July, 2008.

Chief Financial Officer - Douglas Le Fort ACMA, MBA
Douglas joined Prosurgics in June 2008 from Abbott Laboratories, where he was Head of Finance for the international business of Abbott Diabetes Care. Prior to this, he worked at Chiron Corporation, a NASDAQ listed company where he was CFO for the European Biopharmaceuticals business. Prior to that, he was a Finance Director and held a number of senior finance positions at the US consumer products company, SC Johnson & Son and what was the Dutch packaging group, Van Leer, where he gained significant commercial, fiscal and controllership experience both in Europe, Asia as well as in the U.S.

Douglas is a Chartered Management Accountant and holds a MBA from Henley Management College.

Following his first degree Colin worked in clinical research for 7 years before joining Medelec Ltd (part of Vickers Medical Division). His roles with Medelec encompassed management of marketing, customer support and new product development programmes, starting as Product Development Manager through to Business Group Manager in 1997. At this point he made a career move to Oxford Instruments as Marketing Manager for Neurophysiology and New Business, managing a marketing team with global responsibility for a £20m turnover.  
 
In 2001 he was approached to join Cardionetics Ltd as Director of Marketing. Cardionetics is a small UK technology-based business and his major role was to launch the company's products on the international stage, and in particular to form a strategic alliance with an appropriate global partner. This he achieved through a marketing deal with the US medical device company Welch Allyn.  
 
Colin has a Cranfield MBA and joined Prosurgics in April 2003.

International Sales Director – Frank Gehres BSc, MBA
Following his first degree Frank started his career in the HIV research at Abbott Laboratories. After 2 years he joined Grunenthal GmbH as a International Product Manager and became a Area Sales & Marketing Manager, where he was responsible for their Export business in the West Asian region.

At this point he moved back to Abbott Laboratories, Diabetes Care Division as a Marketing Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He shortly became the Sales & Marketing Mgr. for the German Retail business from where he moved into the Head of Sales for Germany. In 2006 he also held the position of GM Austria, with a responsibility for a $95m turnover. In his last role he was Global Commercial Director, responsible for building and leading international sales teams as well as, developing world-class salesforce effectiveness programs.

Frank holds a BSc in Biotechnology and a MBA from the FU Berlin. He joined Prosurgics in May 2008.

Technical and Operations Director - Richard Meechan, BSc, DMS
Following completion of his engineering degree and business management diploma, Richard had a 20 year grounding in high tech automotive engineering.  During this time his various roles encompassed marketing and sales, in addition to engineering, and included periods based in France and Germany.  Richard's previous experience in the robotics industry was as General Manager of a specialist German manufacturer of injection moulding handling systems for the quality-conscious mobile telecoms industry.
 
Before joining Prosurgics in April 2007, Richard was part of the senior technical team within De La Rue plc. As Technical Director of their Identity Systems Division he successfully launched new security product and automation machinery for the Electronic Passport sector.  Richard is a qualified ISO9000 auditor and has been closely involved in quality system deployment in new product engineering and production environments.  He brings a history of achievement in the management of new product development and introduction to manufacture.
 
Director: Founder & Chief Scientist - Patrick A Finlay, PhD, Ceng, FIMechE.

Patrick Finlay graduated from Birmingham University with an engineering degree and worked for five years with Metal Box plc in line management. He then moved to ICI Pharmaceuticals as Research Fellow responsible for introducing robotic automation. During this time he completed a PhD in automation and robotics at Strathclyde University. In 1983 he moved to Fulmer Research Institute, a contract research organisation, where he became General Manager in 1985. In that capacity, the UK DTI invited him to manage the national Advanced Medical Robots Programme, which involved running an initial Feasibility Study and subsequently managing a number of collaborative development projects involving innovative medical applications of robotics. The interest this generated led him to set up his own company, which became Armstrong Healthcare in 1996.
 
Dr Finlay is internationally active in the field of medical robotics. He is retained by the European Commission as an expert adviser in medical applications of robotics. He is also active in a number of national and international bodies concerned with the development, safety and dissemination of this field, including a joint industry/government initiative to develop the UK medical device industry. He is involved in European Union and national development programmes in medical robotics and has managed several collaborative technology projects. He is the author of a number of patents and technical papers, a frequent conference speaker and an occasional radio and television broadcaster.

Chief Executive - David McTurk

David McTurk has held a number of senior management positions in publicly quoted and private companies in the high technology sector, with 18 years of board-level responsibility. His early career was in production and operations management with Dowty Information Systems and Carlton Cabletime, leading to an appointment in 1995 as Managing Director and Group Chairman of Osborne Electronic Holdings, a contract manufacturing business in the telecomms sector.
 
In 1997 he was appointed COO and Deputy President of Bookham Technology, which he joined as a small start up company, and was instrumental in leading it through its IPO to a business of 1000 employees in three continents.

David was appointed to the board of Prosurgics in November 2003, and was Chief Executive of the company from April 2005 until handing over to Paul Moraviec in July 2007.  David has a number of other business and charitable interests, including his own consultancy.

 

 

Non-Executive Director - Dr Rhona Sim MA, MSc, PhD.
Rhona first joined the board in May 2002 and re-joined it in March 2005 after an 18-month break. For the past seven years, Dr. Sim has been U.K. director of OH-ANS, a private company (of which Fritas A/S is a part) that manages the investment interests of Ove Hoegh, a Norwegian-based investor. She is responsible for managing a portfolio of investments in a range of early stage companies. Prior to that, she was employed as a Eurobond trader at Credit Suisse First Boston and at Daiwa Securities in London, and also worked in Norway for two years for Ove Hoegh. Dr. Sim was educated at the University of Glasgow (M.A.) and the London School of Economics (M.Sc., PhD) and holds a Diploma in Corporate Finance from the London Business School. She is also a non-executive director of PharmaVentures Ltd.
